The Power of Broccoli: Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Fearless Living, Natural Eating
-
Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari “Cheeka” Srikkanth is known for his fearless style on the cricket field. But in a recent talk session, he spoke just as openly about something much closer to home, health, food habits, and the small choices that keep us going every day. And yes, that conversation quickly led to broccoli.
-
My Wife Gives Me Broccoli Soup Every Day
With his trademark honesty and humour, Srikkanth shared a very relatable story. “My wife eats salads and all kinds of healthy food. But I eat rasam, papadams, anything deep‑fried. That never changes,” he laughed.
-
But there is one healthy habit he happily accepts. “She gives me broccoli soup every day. I don’t know much about broccoli, it looks like a small cauliflower, but she insists it’s good for me. So I drink it!”
-
Today, broccoli soup appears on his table three to four times a week. A simple reminder that many healthy habits don’t start with big decisions, they start at home, often thanks to someone who cares.

How Food and Fitness Have Changed Over Time
Talking about the past, Srikkanth admitted that fitness was never a focus during his playing days. “In our time, we didn’t think about gym or diet,” he said. “Now I do.”
He pointed out how today’s athletes are far more food‑conscious, supported by nutritionists and structured diets. Social media, he feels, has played a big role in spreading awareness about what we eat. “I’m sure broccoli is part of many athletes’ diets today,” he added. And it’s not just athletes. Younger generations, children, daughters‑in‑law, and families are increasingly choosing salads, vegetables, and lighter meals over heavy, fried food.
-
Fearlessness, Innovation, and Trying Something New
For Srikkanth, whether it’s cricket, life, or food, the mindset is the same. “Fearlessness is important,” he said. “You can’t be scared.” He encouraged people to stop fearing failure and to try new things, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. “Innovation means doing something differently. Sometimes you fail. Sometimes you strike gold.” The same applies to our plates. Trying a new vegetable, changing a small habit, or adding something healthier doesn’t mean giving up comfort, it just means being open to change.
-
Living Naturally Starts with Small Choices
As the conversation deepened, Srikkanth shared a simple but powerful thought. “The more natural we live, the better life becomes.”
Health, he believes, should not be about pressure or perfection. It’s about feeling good, living freely, and making choices that support us in the long run. And sometimes, those choices are very small. A bowl of soup. A green vegetable. A habit gently introduced at the family dining table.
-
One Green Step at a Time
You don’t need to change your entire lifestyle to live healthier. You don’t need to give up the foods you love.
As Srikkanth’s story shows, even something as simple as broccoli soup, served regularly, without drama, can quietly become part of everyday life. Because healthy living doesn’t need to be complicated.
Sometimes, it begins with one green choice, one meal at a time.🥦💚
